Yeah, but that doesn't come close to reaching the threshold of malware, nor search hijacking as the OP claimed. Tl dr - abandoned or not Adblock remains a legitimate commercial company - they would not have turned one of their products into malware & it's very unlikely that the ublock extension put /u/PurpBarney into any danger. uBlock is abandoned, it was removed from AMO presumably because of this, which does make one wonder what value it has to Adblock since they haven't migrated the userbase or anything. Michael Gundlach's Adblock extension no longer exists since Adblock (the company that Gundlach built and then sold) simply abandoned it and forked ABP instead. It's not malicious, it's just no longer developed (check out the repo - and yes that is the official uBlock repo LOL - transfered from gorhill to Chris Aljoudi and then to "uBlock-LLC"). As we all know uBlock LLC was sold to Adblock in 2018, its development is dead. Other people have had worse experiences with malware, I guess I'm lucky, Malwarebytes does nothing to remedy this. For months I've been trying to figure out what was causing a browser redirect, this app hijacks your search bar and changes it to Bing.

Yes indeed, I've had this extension installed for a long time and It scares me to think how long i've been putting myself in danger. u/L18CP here's a link to his claim (click on Reviews):
